Li-SEAM Process

The invention describes a lithium-production process named Li-SEAM (Selective Extraction and Membrane process for Lithium). This process integrates a highly selective adsorption/desorption process for direct lithium extraction (DLE) from brines/solutions with a novel FRO (Facilitated Reverse Osmosis) or FO (Forward Osmosis) membrane process for subsequent ultra-concentration and purification (UCP) of the lithium-laden eluant to reach a lithium concentration of 20 g/L or more.

TL9PE DLE material

The Ti-based pelletized resin manufactured by Orizhen Group, excels in lithium extraction efficiency, lithium selectivity, and material longevity. In a brine with 5% sodium chloride and 34 mg/L of Li+, the resin can concentrate lithium in the source brine almost 20 folds to about 700 mg/L through capture/release with < 100 mg/L of Na+ in the eluant. It is also demonstrated in our testing that the lithium adsorption capacity of our resin remains unchanged after 500+ continuous cycles of sorption and desorption.

OsRO/FRO concentration

The novel OsRO process employs a draw solution (or sweep) on the permeate side of a membrane to counteract the osmotic pressure induced by the high-salinity feed while simultaneously applying hydraulic pressure on the feed side to concentrate the incoming brine/solution. A series of stages is utilized in the membrane process to gradually step down the salinity in the permeate, greatly expanding the total dissolved solids (TDS) limit of traditional RO. OsRO and OARO are alternate names for FRO and they are all designed/operated under the same principles mentioned above.

Acid-Li separation

Although strong acid and base are used in the Li-SEAM production process, no acidic or alkaline solutions are discharged from the process as wastes. benefitted from ORIZHEN® acid-stable, chemical-stable nanofiltration and ultrafiltration membranes with elements that used in the Li-SEAM process. the acid used in Lithum production are recovered and reused
